About the Author

Marshall B. Romney is the John and Nancy Hardy Professor in the Marriott School of Management at Brigham Young University. He holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree from BYU and a PhD degree from the University of Texas at Austin.

Marshall has published 10 different books and over 100 articles in academic and professional journals. He is the recipient of eight research grants. He has taught for or consulted with over 50 different organizations. Marshall is a past president of the Information Systems section of the AAA. He was a member of both the Information Technology Executive Committee and the IT Practices Subcommittee of the AICPA. He was the chairman of the Information Technology committee for the Utah Association of CPAs, who presented him with the outstanding chairperson award. At BYU, Marshall is the Chairperson of the Information Systems Department and is the director of both the graduate and undergraduate Information Systems programs.

Paul John Steinbart is a Professor in the Department of Information Systems in the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University where he teaches graduate courses on information security and an undergraduate course on accounting information systems. His research interests include issues concerning the usability of information security solutions, individuals’ information security behaviors, effective governance of information security, and the effects of information technology on decision making. He has published his research in leading academic journals such as MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, the Journal of the Association for Information Systems, Decision Sciences, and The Accounting Review. He is also the co-author of the undergraduate textbook Accounting Information Systems published by Prentice-Hall. Steinbart also serves as the ISACA Academic Advocate at Arizona State University.

Kaufman Did Have Zodiac Killer HOOD!

Professor Dewhurst: TY for finally coming out with the book and pictures not seen on internet! You prove Kaufman did have the Zodiac Berryessa Hood by the Pi measurements and the cross stitch pattern Zodiac attempts to display 11/9/69 with X and spatial dots in the slightly imperfect circle describing the measurements. In one of the Zodiac letters, he mentions about inches along the radian. In other words how did the Tarrance & Kaufman family know the size of the cross/circle shape and the type of stitch pattern used by Zodiac? As per your book- "the diameter of the circle was what I thought it would be: about 6.28 inches. The diameter was that of the circle which would be inscribed by a protractor set to a 3.14 inch radius. A radius of Pi." It has been a long journey and despite all the ups and downs, would do it all over again because, like you, Dennis, Nanette Barto, and so many who have struggled with the reality Jack may be Zodiac....we know the truth when we see experience it all. I was given permission by Dennis Kaufman to work on the Jacks codes last year and to remember you had the biographical rights when compiling my book coincidentally out now. Please, Professor, let's work together as I got Jack's keys to his codes as shown to me by Dennis....long story but in Jack's own words, his own way, in code, he tells all on the CIA, MkUltra which was operating illegally there in San Francisco. Lastly, thank you for sharing Nanette Barto's work in such a positive light. Dennis, when he lived with me and most of us from the earlier days were not talking (thx to disinformationalists wishing to crush & bury us), he said that should books come out on Jack, Nanette is to be given ultimate positive respect for her role because no one could have got as far as he did or even anyone us has without her dedicated accomplishment of nailing the handwriting which did air of True Crime With Aphrodite Jones in the end saying 'according to FBI, handwriting is a match' TY again Professor Dewhurst! In this 1976 volume, divided into two sections, Wiesenthal tackles the question of the possibilities and limits of forgiveness. The first part relates the story of how Wiesenthal, as a prisoner in a Nazi concentration camp, was brought before a dying SS trooper, who explained his actions and asked for forgiveness, which Wiesenthal could not bring himself to bestow. In the second section, Wiesenthal presents the story to an array of leading intellectuals and asks, "What would you have done?" This edition contains all the original responses plus additional ones from Primo Levi, Cynthia Ozick, Albert Speer, and others. Heavy stuff.

Forgiveness versus Absolution

I think in Christian theology there is a difference between human forgiveness and Divine absolution.
Only God can provide absolution because only God actually knows the heart - whether the person has truly repented or not.
What we are asked to do when told to forgive seventy times seven, I think, is to let go of the anger, hurt, and desire for revenge and give it to God. At that point, we can also receive healing from God - which may take some time to truly absorb. Then we are told to pray for those who have hurt us.

A transformative book

There are three different editions of Simon Wiesenthal's The Sunflower, each with new contributors to the symposium portion that make it more thought provoking each time. This is a remarkable story, and the issues that it raises and that the respondents address are complex, powerful, and, sometimes unfortunately, just as relevant today as they were when all of this first happened. It will make you think hard and come to terms with some of the most important concepts about human behavior.

Interesting book but I think the focus was slightly misplaced. Like most of those who responded, I agree, that obviously Simon can not forgive Carl for an act of murder done to a third party. But there is another element here and that is repentance for it's own sake. Simon remains silent despite his assumption of the sincerity of Carl's regrets because he can not forgive him. I feel the correct answer would have been "I can not forgive you for what you did to someone else but use your remaining time alive to repent your actions and hopefully you will be forgiven in the next world"

No matter how evil someone was,if they express sincere regret even if that regret will not undo anything, nor will it fully atone for them,nonetheless their repentance is to be encouraged

About the Author
Alexander Hutchison was born and brought up in Buckie, a fishing town on the north-east coast of Scotland. He has worked on and off in universities, including 18 years in Canada and the USA, though he gave up being a literary academic some time ago. As a poet (and occasional translator) he writes in Scots and English. Currently he lives in Glasgow. Based on recent experience he has decided that while wishful thinking doesn't do it, a proper determination can make the cosmos perk up and take a bit of notice. "Mr Scales Walks His Dog," an underground perennial, was composed in the early seventies and drew praise from Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Michael Ondaatje.

Very informative and thought provoking

SOmeone recommended this to me, so I found it half price somewhere and picked it up. What a treasure! Each reading offered me so much information and gave me pause to really think. I think it is a great book, and next year plan to go through it with my kids at Christmas. Several people popped in my mind that might benefit from this book. It doesn't preach, it teaches

So eloquent

I husband suggested I read this book after he found it while living overseas on military duty in the Sinai Peninsula. While both Christians, we had fallen away from a focus on faith until recently. This book was so nice to read during this wonderful season of celebration. I felt it was so eloquently written and really captured my attention during each chapter. I am so glad I read it this year and I would have paid more for it. Thank you to this author for his wonderful gift of writing about the nativity.

Why the Nativity, by David Jeremiah, is an inspirational book answering several questions surrounding the nativity of Christ. David is a good theologian and a great pastor, and his book is exactly what you would expect. This is not supposed to be a scholarly work, it does not have a lot of depth historically, but David still does a good job, and it always interesting. It was enjoyable to read. I have a few minor disagreements, such as the his comment the our image of angels with wings and white robes was a product of painters in the middle ages, but Icons for centuries proceeding the middle ages depicted winged angels,and we know from scripture the ones in the empty tomb wore white robes. Still, overall, this is a good, short, inspiring book to read during the Christmas holidays.

In the present book, the basics of imaging and diffraction in transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) are explained in textbook style. The book focuses on the explanation of electron microscopic imaging of TEM and STEM without including in the main text distracting information on basic knowledge of crystal diffraction, wave optics, mechanism of electron lens, and scattering/diffraction theories, which are explained in detail separately in the appendices.  A comprehensive explanation is provided using Fourier transform theory. This approach is unique in comparison with other advanced textbooks on high-resolution electron microscopy.  With the present textbook, readers are led to understand the essence of the imaging theories of TEM and STEM without being diverted by facts about electron microscopic imaging. The up-to-date information in this book, particularly for imaging details of STEM and aberration corrections, is valuable worldwide for today’s graduate students and professionals just starting their careers.

About the Author
Dr. Nobuo Tanaka is a designated professor of Institute of Materials and Systems for Sustainability (IMaSS) of Nagoya University and an adjunct senior researcher of Japan Fine Ceramic Center (JFCC). He received a ph.D degree from Applied Physics Department of Nagoya University in 1978, and became an assistant professor of the department. He stayed Arizona State University as a visiting scholar to study with the late Prof. J. Cowley from 1983 to 1985. He was appointed a full professor of Applied Physics of Nagoya University in 1999 through an associate professor. In 2001, he moved to Center of Integrated Research for Science and Engineering (CIRSE) of Nagoya University, which was renamed EcoTopia Science Institute (ESI) in 2004. He was the director of the institute from 2012 to 2015. He is also the president of Japanese Microscopy Society (JSM) from 2015 to 2017. His professionals are high-resolution electron microscopy and nano-diffraction, and physics of atomic clusters and thin films as well as surfaces and interfaces of semiconductors. He is also the editor/author of a textbook as Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy of Nanomaterials.

About the Author

Barbara Shwom, Ph.D., is Professor of Instruction in Writing at Northwestern University, where she teaches in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, Kellogg School of Management, and McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science. For more than 30 years, she has designed and taught communication courses that have influenced this textbook, including Writing in Organizations, Communicating Complex Data, Engineering Design and Communication, and How to Become an Expert in Roughly 10 Weeks. Professor Shwom’s teaching at Northwestern has been recognized by both an outstanding teacher award and an appointment as a fellow of Northwestern’s Searle Center for Teaching Excellence. Professor Shwom has gained industry experience as the managing principal of Communication Partners, a consulting practice that works with clients from a range of industries, including biotechnology, high tech research and development, pharmaceuticals, management consulting, market research, financial services, engineering, and consumer products. Professor Shwom’s research interests include evolving genres of business communication, visual communication of data, and methods of persuasion. In addition to many articles, she is also the co-author of a textbook on graphics and visual communication for managers. She currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Association for Business Communication and the editorial review board of Business and Professional Communication Quarterly and has served as president for both the Association for Business Communication and the Association of Professional Communication Consultants.

Lisa Gueldenzoph Snyder, Ph.D., is a Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Business Education and Interim Associate Dean in the School of Business and Economics at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro. She earned a doctorate in Higher Education Administration from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, where she also received a master’s degree in Business Education. Her Bachelor of Science in Business Education is from Northern Michigan University. Dr. Snyder is widely published in journals such as the Business Communication Quarterly, Journal of Business Communication, Business Education Digest, , and NABTE Review. She has made over 150 presentations at local, regional, and national professional development events, workshops, and conferences. Dr. Snyder received the Meada Gibbs Outstanding Teacher Award from the Association for Business Communication, and the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Business Education program at Bowling Green State University. She also has received the Innovative Instructional Practices Award from Delta Pi Epsilon, the Distinguished Service Award from the Ohio Business Teachers Association, and the Collegiate Teacher of the Year Award from both the North Carolina Business Education Association and the Southern Business Education Association. Dr. Snyder is also a Regional Vice President of the Association for Business Communication, National President of the Association for Research in Business Education, Research Coordinator for the National Association for Business Teacher Education, and the Past-Chair of the Policies Commission for Business and Economic Education.

Business Communication: Polishing Your Professional Presence Plus MyBCommLab with Pearson eText -- Access Card Package (3rd Edition)

I purchased this book for a friend that needed it for school at a substantially lower price than the campus bookstore. It was exactly what the professor required for the class, arrived in a shrink wrap (brand new) and was shipped very quickly - I love Prime! The description was accurate and my friend is thankful it was available at a better price with fast shipping. His worry of receiving the incorrect book was unfounded.

He had considered renting this book for his business communication class but decided that it might serve him well to have it as a reference tool for the future. Oddly enough I still use my business communication book from time to time so it seemed like a reasonable idea. Otherwise, renting would have been an awesome and even more affordable option.

This is one of those items that I wouldn't need to buy again, but this experience proved that there are many more AFFORDABLE options available other than the campus bookstore.

My Favorite Business Communication Book is by Mary Ellen Guffey, but This Will Do in a Pinch

This book has your basics: writing persuasive correspondence, writing proposals, writing cover letters, and it even has grammar exercises. My favorite feature of the book is the many examples that it provides. It seems I'm always referring to the following samples: memo, letter, email, and the chart that describes the best medium to use.

Don't Buy... Rent.

Got this as a rental for a class. It was in better shape than I thought an Amazon Rental would be. Anyone over 30 is going to know (or should at least) most of what's in this. It's 75% common sense and 24% proper formatting. It's that last 25% though that make it worth having. Plus the terms in it might not be what folks are used to, so don't try to get by in the class without a copy. The Resume information will probably be obsolete in a year. Resume Formatting trends change constantly.

Rent it, don't buy it.... Unless you have trouble remembering the different formats and will need them to do a lot of business writing.

A Nail-biting Sequel to "Clandestine"

I had no intention of reading A Cold Day in Mosul soon after reading "Clandestine". But an insatiable desire for reading more exciting clandestine operations got the better part of me and I continued with the sequel without a break.

This is a thriller par excellence. The momentum builds up quickly with intrigues and nail-biting escapades. Just when you think it is over, Isaac Hooke merely intensifies the actions and suspense. The embedded "operatives" make miscues that prolong the readers' agony.

A Cold Day in Mosul continues the highly dangerous covert missions of Ethan,the protagonist of Hooke's precursor novel, Clandestine. He is joined by his boss, a complicated character and by an extremely loyal team of ingenious "operators". Their indomitable will to succeed in their mission and to survive the inevitable fatal exploits is an inspiration to resist becoming a victim. They demonstrate the ancient adage that while there is breath there is hope for a positive outcome.

The fighting scenes are exceptionally vivid with each blow and each counterblow seen and felt by the reader. However, the highly technical and minutiae descriptions of various weaponry is an unnecessary distraction that slows up the reading pace and diminishes interest. I found myself having to skip over the technical descriptions in order to continue the momentum and interest.

The romance between Ethan and Alzena captures a human spirit that can never be destroyed by violence, or even the worst forms of human depravation and bestiality. Hooke demonstrates that love connects us all and sustains us through the worst inhumane conditions.

I do not regret reading A Cold Day in Mosul immediately after Clandestine. It was equally enjoyable and a fitting sequel to its precursor. Isaac Hooke gave me double reading satisfaction and much to think about regarding Religion and Geo-politics.

An Exciting and Well Drawn Story

What a great read! Hooke has created a central character whom the reader cannot help but like. Strong, dedicated and flawed. The others who surround him are believable and generally
Ikeable. The plot line itself is drawn carefully and with a degree of exactitude that I admire. Hooke's descriptions of the Iraq/Syria/Iraqui Kurdistan topography are accurate and take the reader right into the action. The author's understanding of modern arms and commo equipment is excellent. The story flows very well. The plot is believable and doesn't stretch into incredulity. I only wish I had read the 1st book in the series before I read the second. I am sure the answers to my questions about Ethan are in Book 1. (I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my review.)

Superb and timely thriller

I had just finished the first book in the series, "Clandestine," when the opportunity to read this came. This is a superb and timely thriller, and gave a lot of insight into the situation with ISIS in the region of Syria and Iraq. It's non-stop action, and anyone who enjoys this genre will not be disappointed.

I hope this series is continued, and that I won't have to wait too long for another book featuring the DIA team and Ethan Galaal. I also hope that a prequel is also written about his earlier exploits. Well done, and highly recommended.
