Loved this story, can't wait for more!

*I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*

RaShelle Workman's Blood and Snow world is probably one of my favorite fairy tale reimaginings I've read. The whole world and all of the characters are so unique, and I love how all of the stories can either stand on their own or can be read all together. In previous volumes, we've met witches, dragons, vampires, and all kinds of of other creatures. Now, in this Alice in Wonderland reimagining, we get to meet Moths.

The Moths are a really interesting creature. Sure, half demon/half human creatures have been done before. But I've never seen them like this! In The Dark Moth Society, the powerful Moths have been trained to fight their demon parents, who come for them on their 18th birthdays. It's a horrible game the demons play, and I can't imagine living my life knowing that a demon is coming to kill me. I also found it really interesting that only the demons of the seven deadly sins play this game - the Moths all have a certain vice depending on who their demon parent was.

Except for Alice. The moth on the back of her hand has never changed colors, so she doesn't even know which demon is coming for her. I have so many questions about Alice, her parentage, and her special abilities, and I can't wait for the next installment to find out more. I'm also really looking forward to seeing how the rest of the Blood & Snow world will play in to Alice's story! This was a really great introduction to this part of the extensive world that's already established.

If you're a fan of fairy tale reimaginings, especially Alice in Wonderland ones, you definitely need this book! Even if you haven't read any of the other books in the Blood and Snow series, this one stands exceptionally well on its own. If you've read any of the Blood and Snow books, you'll also want to read this one and meet Alice and her fellow Moths! 4/5.

The Dark Moth Society

Well as usual RaShelle Workman has done it again. I am never disappointed in her books. They keep you on the edge of your seat through the entire book and this one is no different. Alice is a dark moth trainee. Her mother is human and her father is a demon. They have to train because the demon fathers have made a game of when their children become a certain age they hunt them down and kill them. Alices turn will be in a couple months then her father will be after her. I agree with another review I read that it was too short...LOL...Miss RaShelle Workman us readers need another Dark Moth fix soon. Trust me readers you will enjoy this book. There is a lot of action in this book that I haven't told you about. I don't want to spoil it for you. Loved it.

Whenever I see that there is a new book out in the Blood and Snow world I get really excited. I have followed this series from the beginning and love everything about it. This book starts off introducing us to Alice and explains a little about the mothman society and what they are. I just love books about anything that has to do with demons and Rashelle did it well. I am particularly curious to learn a little more about Kade. There is some mystery surrounding him. Overall I loved it, just like any book by this author. I cant wait to read the next one to see what going to happen next.

American affluence and materialism seemed to know no bounds. It was a time in the Church not unlike the world today.

“One of the most intriguing things about Dorothy Day was how she managed to harmonize a radical social vision with the most orthodox and traditional kind of Catholic piety,” writes Lawrence S. Cunningham, the John A. O’Brien professor of theology (emeritus) at the University of Notre Dame, in his introduction to the collection. “Her views on society would cause the most ‘progressive’ Democratic voter to pause, but her spiritual life was fueled by her fidelity as a Benedictine oblate to the Liturgy of the Hours, her meditations on sacred scripture, her love of the lives of the saints, and her assiduous participation in the Eucharistic liturgy.”

Day begins her series of four reflections with a powerful witness to prayer, the Rosary, the Angelus, and her devotion to the Blessed Mother. Then she turns her attention to the three evangelical counsels of the Catholic Church—vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience—providing insights into a Catholic way of life that benefits all, whether lay person or religious.

Leech's 1983 book, Principles of Pragmatics, introduced the now widely-accepted distinction between pragmalinguistic and sociopragmatic aspects of politeness; this book returns to the pragmalinguistic side, somewhat neglected in recent work. Drawing on neo-Gricean thinking, Leech rejects the prevalent view that it is impossible to apply the terms 'polite' or 'impolite' to linguistic phenomena.

Leech covers all major speech acts that are either positively or negatively associated with politeness, such as requests, apologies, compliments, offers, criticisms, good wishes, condolences, congratulations, agreement, and disagreement. Additional chapters deal with impoliteness and the related phenomena of irony ("mock politeness") and banter ("mock impoliteness"), and with the role of politeness in the learning of English as a second language. A final chapter takes a fascinating look at more than a thousand years of history of politeness in the English language.

Reflections on the Gospel of Mark

Face to Face with Jesus is a short book, which contains spiritual reflections that Archbishop Forte gave before a large audience during Lent 2012. In this "exercises for everyone," he reflects on Jesus' life as presented in the Gospel of Mark. He chose the Gospel of Mark because it is the oldest Gospel; the shortest Gospel; and because the Gospel is a life journey, a progressive journey, and a paschal journey. In this work, Archbishop Forte wants to address what evil in our lives we must rid ourselves of, what choices we must make to fully give our lives to Jesus, and what practices must we put into our lives to be a source of light and love for others.

The first chapter of the book details Jesus' baptism, His temptation in the desert, and the day he spent in Capernaum. In these three passages, we can see Jesus as the Son of God and one who must be sacrificed for us. We see the ongoing struggle between Satan and God. And we see Jesus preaching, teaching, and healing. In the second chapter, we see the prophecies of Jesus' Passion, the Garden of Gethsemane, and His Crucifixion. It is in these passages where we see Jesus freely accept His Passion and death. We also see that by Jesus dying, He has granted us life eternal. The third and final chapter addresses the empty tomb and the mission of His followers post-Resurrection. Like Jesus' disciples then, we must freely accept the new life He offers us and share that message with everyone.

Though this book is only 70ish pages, it packs quite a punch. Archbishop Forte did a masterful job extracting the message of Mark and making it available and understandable to all. While, I believe this book would best be read during Lent, you could read it at anytime. This book is "a manual for Christian living." In it you will find freedom from self; to purify your heart from world attachments; and to not fear death. I would like to close with a quote. "To live is to learn how to die; those who live for love, shall die in the love of the living and holy God."
