About the Author
Martin Handford, the man behind the mind-boggling Waldo books, began his career as a freelance illustrator specializing in drawing crowd scenes. "I can’t tell you how pleased I am that Waldo has taken on a life of his own," he says. "I’d like to inspire children to open their minds to explore subjects more, to be aware of what’s going on around them. I’d like them to see wonder in places that may not have occurred to them." Martin Handford lives in England.

Great for young children, tons of sticker fun.

I think kids of all ages (even adults) can enjoy Waldo books, but this one has a definite age range. It is important to note that I think this book is intended for younger children, as older kids would find the games and activities a bit simplistic.

Stickers feature predominately, with six full color pages in the center to use on various pages of activities. The first page instructs the child to "stick the stickers on top of the matching silhouettes to complete the scene." There's a very simple Sudoku page, a reindeer matching game, a two page board game, and one page of finding Waldo and his friends. But 75% of the book is using stickers - both for decorations and as games. I would estimate that sort of activity would be super attractive to a 3 or 4 year old, but a 6 year old might be bored.

I think it would be easy for people to glance at the cover and think "Waldo with santas!" without seeing the additional description of "Puzzles, searches and hundreds of cool stickers" right below the title. I think it's a super activity book for young children, but I would hate to see someone order this for an older child (or themselves) and be disappointed. But if you have a sticker lover, absolutely order this one.

Great for 4 year olds!

There are definitely a lot of stickers in this book, but the activities are engaging (holiday theme or not). This is the only activity book in a while that my 4 year old repeatedly asked to play with. While I had to help her peel the stickers off and explain how to do each activity, she was able to figure 95% of everything out from there.

This is a list of Karl Terzaghi's first 256 papers and reports - by Bjerrum, et al., John Wiley and Sons, 1960. An update was published by Geotechnique, March 1964.
Terzaghi won the Norman Medal of ASCE four times (1930, 1943, 1946, and 1955). He was given nine honorary doctorate degrees from universities in eight different countries. He started modern soil mechanics with his theories of consolidation, lateral earth pressures, bearing capacity, and stability.

Worth the Effort

John Dourley's study of Tillich and Jung is not easy reading. It is dense, complex and detailed, comparing the understanding of the human being, human destiny, God and history in the writings of Paul Tillich the theologian and Carl Jung the psychologist. But it is rich with insight of the kind that makes for goosebumps.

Because both Tillich and Jung drew upon and appropriated the visionary work of Christian mystics, especially Meister Eckhart and Jacob Boehme, but also Joachim di Fiore and the Beguines, Dourley provides a bonus in his discussions of these figures. He shows in detail how Tillich's thought evolved from his monumental Systematic Theology to the last days of his life, how Jung progressively revealed his deepest thinking, and how they converged and yet remained apart. More than anyone else, Dourley has shown why both reached beyond the Trinity to a quaternity and why both thought doing so is imperative (and unavoidable) in the growth of humanity.

This book collects a number of essays delivered as papers in various places. Even though revised, they can be just a little repetitive, but given the wealth of complexity in both thinkers, even where issues are addressed a second time, the insights are new, the angles of view are different, and the reminders are valuable.

Anyone who wishes to deeply plum the most fundamental concerns of either Tillich or Jung will find this book rewarding. And anyone who has contemplated the future of humanity and of the individual will discover a great deal to consider.

For those of us who will probably never read, much less deeply study, the theology of Tillich or the collected works of Jung, this book is an eye-opening discovery. Dourley has done a great service that deserves to be more widely known.

About the Author

David Rothman is a native New Yorker. He earned a B.A. in US History/English and an M.A. in English/Linguistics at the University of Wisconsin. David has studied overseas in Sweden and has taught abroad in both Spain and The Czech Republic. As a doctoral candidate in Linguistics at the CUNY Graduate Center, he has presented his research at international conferences in both Switzerland and Scotland. David has presented on Developmental Education pedagogy at many national conferences with his partner-in-crime, Jilani Warsi. He has co-authored two national-edition reading textbooks with Jilani Warsi: Read to Succeed: A Thematic Approach to Academic Reading and Read to Achieve: Gateway to Academic Reading; and has an integrated reading/writing textbook entitled, Read Think Write, also co-authored with Dr. Warsi. David is also an award-winning short -story writer, and is currently working on a novel.

Dr. Jilani Warsi earned an MA in English at Patna University with emphasis on descriptive linguistics, historical linguistics, and language teaching. He pursued an MA in applied linguistics at California State University in Northridge (CSUN). After receiving his master's degree in linguistics from CSUN, he taught English as a Second Language (ESL) at the same university. He joined the doctoral program in applied linguistics at Boston University and received his Ph.D. in May of 2001. He has taught in all of these locations, as well as at Salem State, Fisher, and Newbury Colleges; in the Framingham State University's International Education Program in Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Bolivia, Brazil, Venezuela, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Poland, Costa Rica, Honduras, South Korea, Northern Marianas Islands, and Taiwan, in the Institute for English Language Programs (IEL) at Harvard University where he taught Integrated Skills, Academic Discussion, Professional Communication Workshop, Communication in Business Seminar, and Academic Writing. He currently teaches academic reading and writing in the Department of Academic Literacy at Queensborough Community College, City University of New York. He has co-authored Read to Succeed: A Thematic Approach to Academic Reading; Read to Achieve: Gateway to Academic Reading; and Read Think Write: True Integration of Reading and Writing through Academic Content. His areas of interest are second language acquisition, inter-language phonology, psycholinguistics, and morphology. �

It's not just the tips that made sure I kept a copy of this book around, but also the way they're presented: In practical terms, with examples of where features are useful that are applicable to most developers. Of course it introduces the basics, but I suspect that aspect of the book isn't that interesting for most people buying it (almost nobody is required to use Vim!), it's mostly in tying it all together that this book excels. It will take you from a moderate to intermediate Vim user to a fluent Vim user if you follow its guidance and practice.

However, it is unlikely that an advanced Vim user will find anything surprising in here. I keep this around for introducing others to vim or helping existing vim-ers gain skill; I rarely need it myself. It's got a target audience, and it's exquisitely tailored to them.

I learned some new things, even as a longtime Vim user

I've long been a user of Vim, and was originally skeptical I would learn much from this book. I purchased this book, as I've consumed a lot of the author's free content at[...]and wanted to support the author. I was pleasantly surprised to see that I was able to learn a few things pretty quickly after opening the book.

It's well written and easy to understand, and has plenty of content for the novice and advanced user alike. The book is written as a series of tips collected into themes. Each tip gets more advanced within each group of tips.

Whether you are just starting out, or a long time user, this book is a great way to get that extra bit out of Vim.
